My synodontis catfish hangs on the glass like my common pleco does. He basically hangs out (literally) behind the thermometer (just below water level, stuck on the glass) and we have seen him "glass grazing" on a regular basis.
One would think he would be getting enough food with the crud left over from the 10 cichlids and the pleco in the tank and the other feeding going on. Besides the cichlid pellets daily, we feed the pleco a stalk of broccoli or a piece of zucchini once a day along with an algae wafer every other day...you'd think he could find SOMETHING to munch on.
Is this normal for a synodontis or is this indicative of an illness or something else? Maybe he has multiple personality disorder? lol Other than his odd habit, he seems healthy otherwise...no fin tears or outward signs of ill health. Water is 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 0 nitrates, and ph 8.0 so there doesn't seem to be an issue there.
Thanks for any information you can share!

the different synodontis catfish that I have had and have right now they hide here and there every where in the tank in front corner behind bush, in caves, wedge in behind a filter, I have put a piece of slate along the front of the tank so a fish can get between it and the glass and they will even hang out there even. I do not think there is any thing wrong with him. : )

| Mine refuses to stay away from my heaters. I've moved her to a couple different tanks now and for some reason she always chooses to hang on the glass by the heaters. The last time I moved her was because she was getting slightly scorched from the heater in a tank that was set warmer than some of my others. Either she really likes the heat or there's some sort of electro magnetic field that just pulls her in. lol
