I setup a 29g Biocube mini-reef back in March. Things are going really well (knock on wood...). Of course I've had to deal with the red algae on the sand from over-feeding and Aiptasia Anemonies but now I've got lots of these little "puffballs" in the filter chamber and behind the liverock. They look like little pieces of puffed rice cereal with little feelers in the middle. Are these good or bad? If bad, how do I get rid of them?

Do you think they could be sponges?

Yes, that's exactly what they look like! Little white pieces of sponge. Is it bad? I tried to take a picture but they just don't come out very good.

We had a salt reef tank a few years ago now, and if I remember right I was told that if sponges grow in your tank, it could be a sign of a healthy tank. Don't take that to the bank though. I don't think they're bad. ><>

If they're sponges you have nothing to worry about. Totally harmless.

If you wouldn't put it in your mouth, don't put it in your tank!

Thanks for the help, now if I can figure out where one of my Skunk Shrimp went I'll be doing great!

Sometimes stuff just disappears without a trace. Sometimes you end up finding it on the floor, sometimes you never find it at all...

If you wouldn't put it in your mouth, don't put it in your tank!
